New Process Kitchen for a Refurbished Starch Moulding Confectionery Line

Mondelez Canada Inc., Hamilton Confectionery Plant, Hamilton, ON, Canada

SAGE Engineering Services Inc. was chosen as the lead Process Engineers to design a new process kitchen, for use with a refurbished NID Mogul Line, to support the production of starch moulded confectionery product.
SAGE was responsible for preparing a detailed User Requirements Specification (URS) to define the critical functions and required mechanical components for a cGMP compliant process kitchen for slurry preparation. SAGE reviewed all existing process kitchen equipment and layouts and developed an ideal P&ID for the slurry preparation process using best engineering practices. SAGE conducted field measurements and verifications to update client facility drawings, incorporating footprints of existing ancillary equipment and components to support current manufacturing, as well as the installation of the refurbished NID Mogul Line. SAGE scope of work also included reviewing the proposed changes to the NID Mogul Line; reviewing the process kitchen fabricator’s drawing; and assessing requirements and location of associated equipment and components with respect to safety and material and people flow.

The SAGE team integrated with the client team from vendor selection through to FAT and provided support in the following areas:

  • Project Management
  • Vendor procurement and management
  • FAT protocol development and execution
